Point State Park and The North Shore

Last week we did our first dry run for nature photography class in downtown Pittsburgh. It was a way for us to learn how to use a compass and also try to find nature in the city. We started at Point Park's campus, headed toward Point State Park, and eventually ended up on the North Shore. Since it was a dreary winter day, the lighting was poor and there wasn't much nature to be found. To be completely honest, I was feeling a little uninspired at first. A few peeks of moss through the concrete, bare branches, and tall grasses were pretty much all there was. But walks like this make you take a closer look at your surroundings to see what can be found. I tried juxtaposing nature with the urban environment, isolating small parts of plants, and finding repeating patterns.
